THERAPY
My Approach
“For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong” - H.L. Mencken. Mental wellness is complex and many issues can intersect, which is why self-diagnosing and generalized advice aren't effective for long-term holistic well-being. For this reason, I will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan that is as detailed as your issue is complex.

Getting Started
Counselling at Jenna McGonegal Therapy always starts with a thorough assessment, so I can understand the factors that are contributing to your distress and the results you’re hoping to achieve. I view your current behaviour as the portal to treatment, and will work with you to address your primary areas of concern and reduce suffering as quickly as possible. Depending on the type of issues you’re experiencing, this may involve exploring the root causes of your distress, practicing different ways of communicating with yourself and others, and learning mindfulness strategies to stop difficult thoughts and emotions from getting in the way of living your life.
Staying on Track
Many people find it valuable to continue therapy even after they start feeling better. Having a safe, non-judgmental space to process life’s ups and downs, along with a supportive person to hold you accountable, can make a big difference. Just as a car benefits from regular tune-ups to keep running smoothly, regular counselling sessions can help you stay on track. I can also support you in pursuing bigger goals—whether that’s advancing your career, improving focus and organization, or taking your skills in a sport or hobby to the next level.

Tools in our Toolbox
Some of the primary therapeutic approaches I use in my practice include:
Accelerated Resolution Therapy
ART supports your brain in processing difficult or traumatic memories at the root of your struggles so they no longer trigger intense emotional reactions. It’s structured, evidence-based, and often provides results in fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy. Learn more about how ART works on my ART page.
Mindfulness-Based Therapies
These practices teach practical ways to pause, calm your mind, and stay present, reducing stress, strengthening self-compassion, and improving focus in daily life. Over time, mindfulness can also help you respond to challenges more intentionally, rather than reacting automatically.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT helps you understand and work with your emotions, so you can respond to yourself and others with more clarity and compassion. By exploring underlying feelings, we can uncover patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and those around you.
Other Skills & Strategies
I integrate additional tools to build self-awareness, strengthen boundaries, and manage stress, so you can navigate challenges with confidence. I often incorporate somatic and body-based approaches to support nervous system regulation, helping you feel more grounded and present in your body.
